Strolling along Hopkins Street in Aspen, CO, is a fun exploration in our culinary options. There are 3 relative newcomers very close to each other – Meat and Cheese, White House Tavern and Hooch. They fit together very well in this corner of town. The founder of Avalanche Cheese Company in Basalt, Wendy Mitchell, opened Meat and Cheese 2 years ago and they have developed a very loyal following among locals and visitors alike. Try one of their signature boards, unique cocktails and their legendary Thai coconut soup. You may think you are in an urban eatery until you look up and see Red Mountain in the setting sun.
White House Tavern is intimate, casual and extraordinary. With a menu of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and sides they have perfected every single item. From the dipping sauce for the French fries to their beloved Crispy Chicken Sandwich as well as the Thai Steak and Noodle Salad, each plate is flawless. No reservations, just first come first serve as you will notice from the lines out the door!
Downstairs and around the corner from Meat and Cheese is Aspen’s newest cocktail bar, Hooch. As their web site says, “Like your living room but more fun!” Not only do they have a wonderfully eclectic cocktail and appetizer menu but the vibe inside goes down chill and smooth. Keep your eye on special events hosted here, they are wonderfully active in the community and have a special place in our hearts!
This is only a smattering of Aspen’s tempting eateries. Check back for more updates on all of our delightful dining experiences!
