Bring a sweater and your sunscreen.
Hiking
Aspen’s trail system is quite diverse with trails for every age and skill level. After all, it is the original family fun activity! Trails like the wide and gentle Rio Grande Trail are perfect for younger kids, while adventurous families can explore the switchbacks of Aspen Mountain or Red Mountain or the breathtaking views of the iconic hikes at Maroon Bells or Conundrum Creek.
Biking
With Aspen’s scenic bike paths and multiple rental options that include both bicycles and e-bikes for every member of the family, Aspen is built to be explored on two wheels. Explore the town by bicycle or venture onto the more challenging mountain bike trails on Red Mountain or Snowmass Mountain.
Life on the Rivers
Introduce your kids to river life with a guided whitewater rafting trip on the Roaring Fork or the Colorado. If rafting isn’t for you, go for a peaceful paddleboarding session. Local guides offer fun and safe fishing experiences on the famous Roaring Fork and Frying Pan for everyone from first-timers to veterans and kids.
Explore the Maroon Bells
Make the most of a visit to Aspen by planning a visit to the Maroon Bells. Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch along the shores of Maroon Lake which is the most-photographic spot in Colorado. Stroll around the lake on easy trails or take the more challenging hike up to Crater Lake, keeping your eyes open for wildlife. You might be lucky enough to spot marmots, deer or possibly a moose! Because of the popularity of the Maroon Bells, private vehicles are not permitted, so be sure to secure tickets for the bus well in advance of your visit. This is at the top of list for family fun!

The Elk Camp restaurant serves lunch and snacks all summer long.
